Legislators to continue lobbying for ADMARC recapitalisation

Member of Parliament for Phalombe Central, George Million, has pledged to continue lobbying for more funding towards the recapitalisation of ADMARC.

Million was speaking on Saturday after the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources toured Liwonde ADMARC depot in Machinga District to assess how it is operating.

He said the depot requires rehabilitation and maintenance of the Groundnuts and Rice processing factories, which have been unoperational since 2017.

“When we go back, we will liaise with the officials at the Ministry of Agriculture on how this facility can be supported.”

Tamani Nkhono Mvula, a Board Member of ADMARC, described the visit by the parliamentarians as crucial for them to appreciate the challenges the company is facing as it pushes the restructuring drive.

In the 2024/25 budget, ADMARC asked government for K150 billion as a revamping fund but only K40 billion was approved.
