Machinga farmers to plant 50,000 trees

In an effort to restore forests, Machinga Farmers Club intends to plant 50,000 trees in the 2023/2024 tree planting season.

Willard Mawindo, the chairperson of the club, said farmers play an active role when it comes to deforestation and as such,they have decided to do something about it by partnering local chiefs, district environmental officers and the private sector.

Mawindo said this at Mchedweka Primary School in the area of Senior Chief Kapoloma in Machinga where they were launching the tree planting initiative.

Machinga District Principal Officer, Henry Kagulo and Ajilu Kalitendele, Parliamentarian for the area, among others, graced this event.
