Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS) has announced that most areas in the country will from Thursday start receiving heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
The department has attributed the development to the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) which is expected to be established today starting from the south and progressing northwards.
In low-lying areas and flood-prone areas, the situation is likely to trigger flash floods.
The department anticipates the heavy rains to last for two days and has warned Malawians to stay alert during this period.
DCCMS has since assured Malawians that it is monitoring weather patterns across the country and will be providing timely updates to keep the public informed about potential weather-related hazards.
