EMPLOYERS OF THE YEAR AWARDS ENTER 3RD SEASON

The Employers Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAM) has announced the third edition of the Employers of the Year Awards where they will recognise best practices in selected categories.

Briefing the media in Blantyre, Ecam President, Anne Chavula, said the awards also aim to develop a mechanism of promoting responsible best practices among employers.

She said the categories include: Managing during Crisis and Workplace Wellness; Human Resource Development; Youth Employment and Skills Development; Corporate Social Responsibility and Inclusive Business; Quality, Productivity and Innovation; Child Labour; Gender Equity; Labour Laws Compliance; Industrial Relations and Employee Engagement; and Essentials of Occupational Safety and Health.

“Participation is open to all ECAM paid-up members, and the call for Entries opens on 11 October 2022 and will close on 21 October 2022,” she said.

Meanwhile, Chavula announced that through the Accelerating Action for the Elimination of Child Labour- ACCEL Africa Project, ECAM has reviewed and updated the Employers Code of Conduct in the Elimination of Child Labour.

The project is being implemented in the context of Malawi’s second Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP-II, 2020 – 2025), especially Priority Area 2: ‘Ratification and application of international labour standards (ILS) and fundamental principles and rights at work (FPRW)’.

The project is targeting five districts in Malawi namely: Mulanje, Thyolo, Mzimba, Chitipa and Ntchisi where issues of child labour are rampant.
