President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has called on Malawians to embrace patriotism, unity and love as cornerstones for national progress as the country honours the legacy of former vice president, late Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others, who died in a plane crash at Nthungwa in Viphya Plantations in Nkhatabay District.

Speaking during a memorial ceremony at Lunjika Turn Off in Mzimba District, the Malawi Leader described the late Dr. Chilima as a dedicated and visionary leader who worked tirelessly for the betterment of Malawians.

Dr Chakwera therefore called upon all Malawians to unite in praying for the bereaved families and ensuring that they are fully supported.

In recognition of his services, the Malawi Leader has declared that the six-lane road under construction in Lilongwe will be named after Dr Chilima.

Speaking on behalf of the Clergy, Right Reverend Yohane Suzgo Nyirenda, hailed the legacy of Dr.Saulos Chilima, describing it as worth emulating.

Bishop Nyirenda said, though it is sad that the country lost its vice president, his patriotism is a true mark of a good leader and that Malawians should strive to build a better nation for all.

Minister of Local Government, Richard Chimwendo Banda, said Dr. Chilima will be remembered for his unwavering commitment and selfless service to the country through his visionary leadership. He said the government will soon begin to construct a memorial park at the site.
