Ekhaya FC coach Enos Chatama says his team must show greater consistency if it is to secure a stronger finish on the TNM Super League log table.
Chatama said this as his side is expected to lock horns against Dedza Dynamos at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre this afternoon.
As it stands, Ekhaya is 6th with 32 points from 21 games, while Dedza is 12th and has amassed 21 points from 21 games.
The Ekhaya coach said their target is to survive relegation this season, which is their debut.
“The project has taken the right direction in the sense that we have roped in better players; the only setback is that we have lost our stability as a team,” Chatama said.
The team endured a three-match losing streak in August and September, falling 2-1 at home to Mzuzu City Hammers, 1-0 away to Civil Service United in Lilongwe, and 2-1 to MAFCO.
They briefly recovered with a 4-1 victory over bottom-placed Songwe Border United on 4 October and a 3-0 win against Kamuzu Barracks on 22 October, before suffering another setback with a 2-1 home defeat to Blue Eagles on 25 October.
Speaking ahead of their match against Dedza, Chatama said their opponents are better because they have experience in the top flight, but said everything can happen in a game of football.
“We know that it will be a tough game, so we should look at the records. Despite football not being about past games, it is about the present. We need to be psychologically strong and think about what led to the past mistakes and what made us lose games that we were supposed to win. If everything is alright, we will be good to go into that game,” Chatama said.
Dedza Dynamos go into this game on the back of a poor run of form, having failed to win a match since their 1-0 victory over Kamuzu Barracks on 31 August.
Their slump began with a 3-0 defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in Blantyre on 27 September, followed by a 1-0 home loss to Mighty Wanderers, another 1-0 setback against Mzuzu City Hammers in Mzuzu, and a similar scoreline against Chitipa United away in Chitipa.
Coach for the side, Alex Ngwira, said the fixtures were ‘tricky’ because they were mostly on the road.
“We sat down with our players to fix this, so we are ready and prepared,” Ngwira said.
League action shall be in action across other stadiums. For instance, Mzuzu City Hammers will face Creck Sporting Club in Mzuzu and Kamuzu Barracks will host Chitipa United at Champion Stadium.
