President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to swear in Justice Lovemore Chikopa as the Deputy Chief Justice of the Malawi Judiciary this morning.
Justice Chikopa, who is a Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal judge, will become the first Deputy Chief Justice in the country.
A release from the Office of the President and Cabinet stated that Dr Chakwera appointed Justice Chikopa in line with provisions of Section 111 (2) of the Constitution.
The appointment has come three years after Parliament passed the Constitution Amendment Bill which created the Deputy Chief Justice position.
Justice Chikopa has served as a Supreme Court judge at the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal since 2012.
