Chakwera calls for hope as search for missing plane continues

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has asked Malawians to hold on to their faith and pray for all on board the missing aircraft that had Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima and nine others on board.

In his national address at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, Dr Chakwera said Malawi has asked USA, Norway, United Kingdom and Israel to help in the search operation to locate where the plane is and that they have all pledged to deploy sophisticated search equipment.

President Chakwera explained that bad weather in Mzuzu prevented the aircraft from landing, with the crew being advised to return to Lilongwe.

Dr Chakwera said that he has directed the search to continue until the plane is located.

The President expressed hope that survivors will be found and added that the search operation is around Raiply area.

The Malawi leader further disclosed that he has ordered the MDF to keep updating the nation about progress of the search operation.

The military plane, a dornia, went missing around 10am on Monday.
