US-based Malawian entrepreneur Chawezi Banda, popularly known as Cha Cha, has launched the construction of a modern waiting shelter at Lingadzi Police Station in Lilongwe, aimed at improving public service delivery and community-police relations.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place on Thursday, with Banda stressing the need to provide dignity and comfort to people seeking police services.
“This shelter will provide a secure and respectful space for members of the public who may have to wait for assistance. It reflects my broader commitment to supporting meaningful community development back home,” said Banda.
The facility, which is already under construction, is designed to serve the growing number of clients visiting the station daily.
Senior Superintendent Israel Kwalira, Officer in Charge at Lingadzi Police Station, welcomed the development, saying the donation addresses a critical need.

“Our station serves a large volume of people every day, and not everyone is assisted immediately. This shelter will ease congestion and improve conditions for those waiting. We sincerely appreciate this generous gesture from Cha Cha,” he said.
He further called on other well-wishers to emulate Banda’s example by supporting public institutions in meaningful ways.
The waiting shelter is expected to be completed soon, providing a long-term solution for the station’s visitors while enhancing the working relationship between law enforcement and the community.
