Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC has unveiled the nominees for the 2024 First-team end-of-season awards at the Presidential Ball on 31 December 2024 where the club President, Thomson Mpinganjira, will be in attendance.
Wanderers’ Chief Operations Officer, Panganeni Ndovi, said Mpinganjira will also award an individual who has had significance impact on the Club.
The team has since given their fans an opportunity to vote for their favourite nominated players through their Facebook page.
The categories to be voted for include: Player of the Season, Rookie of the Year, Top Goal Scorer, Most Improved Player, Best Goalkeeper, Best Midfielder, Best Striker, Top Fan Award, Goal of the Season and Best Team Player/Disciplined Player and the year.
Just recently, their cross-town arch-rivals, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, also awarded their outstanding players at a Red Carpet event in Blantyre. Super League rookies, Creck Sporting Club, also did a similar thing in Lilongwe.
Sports analyst, Edwin Mbewe, noted that such initiatives act as morale boosters to athletes as they prepare for their upcoming season.
“It is very important for the players, even if they fail to get a silverware,” Mbewe said.
Return dates of next year’s season are yet to be announced, but the President of the Football Association of Malawi, Fleetwood Haiya, is on record having suggested that it will kick-off much earlier.
