WESNET for increased investment in wash services

The Water and Environmental Sanitation Network (WESNET) is calling for increased investment in water, sanitation and hygiene services as a measure against waterborne diseases, especially cholera.

Board chairperson for WESNET, Chandiwira Chisi, has made the appeal in Lilongwe at the National WASH joint review aimed at evaluating how the sector has fared in 2023.

“As CSOs in the water sector we invested K42.2 billion for various WASH activities in 2023 and over K43 billion will be invested this year,” Chisi said.

Chisi has since called on the government to increase financing in the water sector in order to attain targets under Sustainable Development Goal number 6 on water and sanitation by 2030.

Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia, is expected to open the 2024 National WASH Joint Sector Review.
