Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have climbed to the 4th position in the league standings after a convincing 3-1 victory over Dedza Premier Bet Dynamos at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday.
The win, courtesy of Christopher Kumwembe’s goal and Isaac Kaliati’s brace, propelled Wanderers to 15 points.
Coach Meke Mwase attributed the team’s struggles in the first half to tactical issues, but the introduction of Kaliati in the second half proved to be the game-changer.
Dedza’s Chifuniro Mpinganjira scored a consolation goal but it was too little too late. Kaliati’s impressive performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
Dedza’s Coach, Andrew Bunya, acknowledged that his tactics failed to yield the desired results and vowed to make necessary adjustments.
Elsewhere, Mzuzu City Hammers missed an opportunity to move into second place after suffering a 2-1 defeat to FOMO at Mulanje Park Stadium.
FOMO’s Hassan Luwembe scored a brace, while Chisomo Sambani’s penalty was the consolation for Hammers. Despite the loss, Hammers remain third with 16 points while FOMO jumped from 13th to 11th place.
Gilbert Chirwa, FOMO’s Head Coach, pledged to intensify training to avoid relegation while Mzuzu Hammers’ Coach Elias Chirambo lamented what he called match officials’ bias in the second half, alleging intimidation from the home team’s supporters.
In other matches, Moyale Barracks defeated Mighty Tigers 1-0 to move into 6th place with 14 points, while Creck Sporting are following closely in 7th place after beating MAFCO 2-1.
On Sunday, league leaders Silver Strikers are facing off against defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium.
The Central Bankers have 22 points while The People’s Team have 14 and are sitting on position 5.
Relegation-threatened duo Chitipa United and Bangwe All Stars will clash at Mpira Stadium, while on Tuesday, action will return as Kamuzu Barracks will face Dedza Premier Bet Dynamos at Dedza Stadium.
