Minister of Higher Education, Dr Jessie Kabwila, has urged the University of Malawi (UNIMA) to improve the quality of education and ensure that the institution remains competitive at the international level.
Kabwila made the remarks at UNIMA’s head office in Zomba, as part of her tour of institutions of higher learning.
She emphasised that the UNIMA and other colleges in the country should aim to produce well-rounded graduates who can work globally.
“We want our degrees to be on par with those from China, the USA, and other countries. Our graduates should be able to secure jobs anywhere in the world with a degree earned from a Malawian college,” said Kabwila.
She further said that her ministry will soon present an education bill that will reform the country’s education system.
UNIMA’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Samson Sajidu, assured that the university would maintain high educational standards and remain competitive.
Sajidu expressed pride in the university’s success in producing quality graduates who are contributing to the development of the country and beyond.
