UNDP hails Govt efforts on Climate Resilience Initiatives

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has commended the Malawi Government for its proactive approach to enhancing climate resilience initiatives.

UNDP Resident Representative, Fenella Frost, said this during the launch of the second phase of the Climate Resilience Initiative in Malawi (CRIM-II), which is being funded by UNDP and the Flanders Government, at Senior Chief Kaluluma in Kasungu District.

Frost stressed the importance of supporting these initiatives, which aim to bolster climate conservation and improve food security in the country.

She noted that the first phase of CRIM benefited over 75 households in the area.

Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change, Dr Yusuf Mkungula, noted the government’s commitment to addressing the impacts of climate change, stating that CRIM is a key solution in this effort.

Member of Parliament for Kasungu North, Mike Bango, highlighted the positive outcomes from the first phase of CRIM, noting that beneficiaries have been able to pay school fees and build houses.

Approximately K5 billion Kwacha is allocated for CRIM-II, which runs until 2027 and will focus on the Kahelere irrigation scheme, supporting farmers in planting maize and beans and engaging in fish farming and apiculture.
