Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale, believes mechanisation in farming is key to transforming the agriculture sector in Malawi as it will improve food production.
Kawale made the remarks in Lilongwe when he officially received six row rice transplanter from Delta Automobiles company.
He said the machine will fill the labour gap shortage in rice farming as well as improve profits.
Kawale said what Delta Automobiles has done will help to transform the Agriculture sector, mainly rice production across the country as farmers will graduate from manual farming to mechanisation.
Samson Kabano, Head of Farm Business for Delta Automobiles, the authorised distributor of Mahindra in Malawi, says the donation of a six-row rice transplanter to the Ministry of Agriculture is part of its commitment to supporting Malawi 2063 and the advancement of agricultural mechanisation.
Since President Dr Lazarus Chakwera introduced the Mega Farms initiative in Malawi, a lot of small and medium scale farmers have ventured into mega farming which has the potential to boost the country’s food productivity.
