Malawi Digital Network revolutionises academic research at MUBAS

The country’s free internet project, Malawi Digital Network, has revolutionised studies at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), making academic research much more accessible.

MUBAS’ Head of Information and Communications Technology, Anthony Ziba, emphasised that studying was challenging before the network’s installation.

This statement was made during a visit by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Baldwin Chiyamwaka, who was reviewing the progress of the Malawi Digital Network before the rollout of its second phase, as the first phase concludes in October.

Chiyamwaka stated that the project’s effectiveness is a testament to the government’s commitment to digitalising education.

However, Alexius Chipalamwazani, Network and Infrastructure Manager for one of the project’s implementers, the Malawi Research Education Network, highlighted that vandalism of cables remains a significant setback in providing continuous internet access.
