Madalitso Kazombo, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament on Tuesday ordered the Budget and Finance Committee to present its response to the 2024/25 National Budget.
The directive follows presentation of responses by spokespersons of opposition parties in Parliament; the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the United Democratic Front (UDF).
Gladys Ganda, Chairperson of the Budget and Finance Committee, informed Parliament that the committee was not ready with its report and requested additional time.
Ganda explained that during the two weeks of cluster meetings, the committee was unable to convene because its members were assigned to different clusters. Therefore, they needed more time to develop a thorough response.
However, the First Deputy Speaker instructed the committee to organize itself and present its response on Tuesday.
In his remarks, Richard Chimwendo Banda, Leader of the House, emphasised the importance of the Budget and Finance Committee in the budget deliberations and stressed that it should be the first committee to respond.
