Malawi National Women’s football team and Ntopwa FC goalkeeper, Mercy Sikelo, has been nominated for the category of Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year at the inaugural 2023 COSAFA Awards.
Sikelo is the third Malawian player to be nominated after her fellow Scorchers players Rose Kadzere and Leticia Chinyamula were nominated for the COSAFA Women’s Most Promising Player Award.
She will compete with South Africa national women’s team goalkeepers Andile Dlamini and Kaylin Swart for the prestigious award.
The judges will take into consideration their form for club and country.
The winner will be announced at a gala awards ceremony in Durban on 19 April, with a panel of judges from across the region having assessed their performances for the period of January 1 to December 31, 2023.
