Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states have reiterated their call for the unconditional removal of sanctions against Zimbabwe, which would allow unrestricted socio-economic transformation and development.
They made the call in Lilongwe during the presentation of a joint statement from the SADC Heads and Missions ahead of the Zimbabwe anti- Sanctions Day slated for 25 October 2024.
Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Malawi, Nancy Saungweme, said the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe have a far-reaching impact on the country’s economy and citizens, pointing out that they have severely hindered Zimbabwe’s ability to produce goods for trade, including with neighbouring countries.
High commissioner for South Africa to Malawi, Yuette Myakayaka-Manzini, said there is a need for solidarity and advocacy among SADC member states for the removal of sanctions against Zimbabwe.
Among others, the sanctions extend to trade, financial and economic support as well as immigration.
