Govt banks on local firms to boost export trade

Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola Banda, has called on local business entities to put more effort in improving the quality of their products to stand out in both regional and global markets.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement forum in Lilongwe organised by the Export Development Fund (EDF), Chithyola Banda stressed the importance of producing quality products to reduce imports and increase the country’s exports.

He said local businesses are vital to the country’s overall export goals.

He also urged financial institutions to provide competitive financing solutions to enable businesses to meet international standards.

EDF Managing Director, Frederick Chanza, said there is a need for collaboration across sectors to build a competitive and sustainable economy.
