Nsanje District Council has revealed that they have put in place measures to improve education standards in the district.
Chairperson for the District Council Hussein Ngwali disclosed this on Thursday during the commemorations of the Day of the African Child on Thursday at Group Village Head Chapinga in the area of Senior Chief Mlolo in the district.
Ngwali said the council among others, wants to construct more classrooms as a way of giving access to education to the children in the district.
He further said the council has put in place strategies to curb child abuse as one way of promoting a child-friendly environment and enhancing access to education.
District Social Welfare Officer, Chikumbutso Salifu, urged children to report any maltreatment to authorities.
Salifu highlighted that the shortage of schoolblocks and lack of bursaries are among the challenges affecting most children in the district.
The day was commemorated under the theme “Promoting quality and inclusion education for all children in Malawi: Act now.
