NGO steps in to assist hunger-stricken families in Balaka

Executive Director for Churches Action in Relief and Action (CARD), Melton Luhanga, is optimistic that the Enhanced Climate Resilience for Improved Income and Food Security Project which they have launched in Balaka District will go a long way in addressing food insecurity.

At least 109,340 farmers in the district are food insecure following a dry spell that affected 27 hectares of Maize in the 2023-2024 agricultural season.

The Project is targeting 1,200 farmers, of which 60 percent will be women and they will distribute solar pumps for irrigation as well as five goats each to 300 farmers in the area of Traditional Authority Nkaya.
