NGO Gender Coordination Network has commended President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for upholding a 60:40 gender quota in all his public appointments and recruitments.
A statement signed by NGO GCN’s Board Chairperson, Maggie Kathewera Banda, follows the elevation of Traditional Authority Kaduya of Phalombe to the status of Paramount Chief of the Lhomwe Tribe last week.
In line with section 11 of the Gender Equality Act (2013), the appointing authority in the public service is mandated to appoint no less than 40 percent and no more than 60 percent of either sex.
