Moroccan Embassy to host annual ‘Africa Meets’

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Malawi will host the annual Africa Meets event on 11 January 2026, coinciding with Morocco’s commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the Independence Manifesto. The gathering will take place at the Moroccan Embassy inside the Presidential Villas in Lilongwe.

Morocco’s Ambassador to Malawi, Abdelkader Naji, said the event aims to strengthen unity and understanding among Africans living in Malawi. He explained that the programme was initially planned for 13 December 2025 but was moved due to the festive season.

“This event is very important because it intends to gather all African people here at the Moroccan space in order to exchange, to share, and to know each other,”  said Naji.

“Africa is one, but with multiple identities. Our identity is diverse, and we want to bring together all these cultures and people.”

He added that the event aligns with the vision of King Mohammed VI, who promotes a united and integrated Africa.
“We cannot bring all people together if they do not understand one another. What we are doing now contributes to fulfilling this vision,” added Naji.

Ambassador Naji also pointed out Morocco’s longstanding role in African unity, recalling its leadership during the early formation of the Organisation of African Unity in Casablanca.

“Although we border Europe, Africa remains the root of our existence.
“Without integration and unity among African nations, we cannot develop Africa for the benefit of African people,” said Naji.

Founder of Africa Meets and the Modern Kingdom of Africa, Cho Kish Keido, said the initiative promotes cooperation among African communities.

There’s strength in unity Africa must unite – Keido

“This annual event brings together all people of African countries because we are promoting unity in Africa. Economic development will only happen if we work together put our resources together, put our brains together, and work as one people,” said Keido.

Keido noted that Africa’s economies operate separately, weakening the continent.

“There is nothing like the economy of Africa. Every country is running its own economy,” he said. “But in Europe, America and Asia, you hear of regional economic systems.”

He added that unity would help Africa use its vast natural resources effectively.

“The whole world is fighting for what Africa has. We are the people of the land why can we not utilise our own resources?” asked Keido.

The event will feature cultural performances, food exhibitions and traditional dances. It will be held under the theme “Resilient Africa.”
