Ministry of Homeland Security has warned against acts of political violence as the country heads towards the 2025 Tripartite Elections.
Minister of Homelamd Security, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, was speaking at a press briefing in Lilongwe, citing an attack on a presidential motorcade in the Shire Valley a few days ago as a case in point.
Ng’oma said some people have been arrested in connection with the incident and that the law will take its course.
He then urged political leaders to refrain from using inflammatory language at their rallies, which he noted could incite violence.
He went on to commend the tolerance shown by supporters of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) last weekend in Mzuzu, where both parties held political rallies peacefully.
“Malawi is a democratic country, and we want every political party to enjoy the freedom of holding their gatherings anywhere without intimidation,” said Ng’oma.
