Chimwenje community gets K400 million solar-powered safe water access

Water Mission Malawi, in partnership with Compassion International has commissioned a K400 million Chimwenje Safe Water Project in Traditional Authority Kaphuka in Dedza.

The solar-powered safe water system provides 72,800 litres of piped water daily, serving 37 villages and over 6,000 households through 10 community taps installed across a 7.4 kilometre distance.

Manager of Programme Support for Compassion International, Pellanie Mogha, highlighted that the project addresses critical safe water challenges in the area where the main sources of water were streams and swamps.

T/A Kaphuka praised the initiative, citing its timely arrival to combat cholera and other waterborne diseases as the rainy season is approaching.

Country Director for Water Mission Malaw,i Nixon Sinyiza revealed that Water Mission has now reached a milestone of commissioning safe water projects in over 80 communities serving over 500,000 people with portable clean and safe water.

The project was funded by the McKinnon family in the USA.
