Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has extended an invitation to community radio stations in the country to partner with the public broadcaster to ensure quality service provision to the public.
Speaking when signing a Memorandum of Understanding with community radio stations in the Northern Region, MBC Director General, George Kasakula, emphasized the importance of such a collaboration, which he says ensures the delivery of quality services on matters of national importance.
The initiative seeks to fulfill MBC’s mission of reaching out to a wider audience and addressing technical challenges that limit the corporation’s reach to remote areas.
Zadziko Mankhambo, Director of Broadcasting at Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), has commended MBC for the collaborative effort and pledged support to ensure all Malawians have access to vital information.
Speaking on behalf of other community radios, Reverend Ken Nyirongo, Station Manager for Voice of Livingstonia, says MBC’s initiative is an exemplary role of a leading broadcaster.
MACRA’s Universal Service Fund is supporting the project, which accommodates MBC’s developmental programmes like Zikutheka, Dera Langa, and Timvetse, and coverage of Presidential events.
Community radios such as Voice of Livingstonia, Tigabane, Tutufye, Mzimba, Rumphi, and Chilundu are part of the initiative.
