The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill vacant positions existing in its Engineering and ICT Directorate as follows:
1. ICT OFFICERS – INFRASTRUCTURE (2 positions)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
i. Manages the network and storage infrastructure (LAN, WAN, VPN, Internet and NAS)
ii. Provides first-line technical support to all users
iii. Carries out routine maintenance on all broadcasting systems
iv. ICT infrastructure planning and scalability
v.Manages the ICT inventories
vi. Works with service providers to resolve issues
vii. System monitoring and maintenance
viii. Implements and maintains security measures to protect computer systems
and data Qualifications and Experience:
✓ Bachelor of Science in ICT/Computer Science/Electrical/Electronic Engineering
✓ At least three years of working experience
✓ Practical TCP/IP knowledge and troubleshooting capabilities will be an
added advantage
2. ICT OFFICER – APPLICATIONS/SYSTEMS
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
i.Provides technical support to all application systems
ii. Responsible for system installation and configuration
iii. Responsible for SAGE 300ERPthe system
iv. Manages ongoing maintenance of application systems
v.Manages data backups and recoveries
vi. User management
vii. Troubleshooting and issue resolution
viii. Technology evaluation and recommendations
ix. Maintains accurate documentation of system configurations and reporting
Qualifications and Experience:
✓ Bachelor of Science in ICT/Computer Science/Electrical/Electronic Engineering
✓ At least three years of working experience
✓ Practical system development knowledge and troubleshooting capabilities
will be an added advantage
3. CAMERA OPERATOR/VIDEOGRAPHER
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
i.Provides camera operation in the studios
ii. Provides camera operations and recordings of MBC TV1 and TV2 productions, Outside Programmes and other relevant footage assigned to shoot
iii. Ingests and rough edits programme footage
iv. Manages studio recordings and shifts for daily studio programmes
v.Carries out preventative maintenance of camera equipment and accessories
Qualifications and Experience:
✓ MSCE
✓ Certificate in Applied Sciences and Electronics; or ✓ City and Guilds Certificate in TV Productions; or its equivalent
✓ At least three years of working experience
4. VIDEO EDITORS (2 positions)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
vi. Receives and accesses a brief footage outline from Producers and Reporters
vii. Performs video editing – assembling raw material, inputting sound and synchronizing
viii. Assembles raw footage, inputting sound and synchronizing for news and programmes
ix. Graphics designing for adverts, news and channel graphics
x.Re-orders and tweaks the content to ensure logical sequencing of the video
xi. Oversees the quality and progress of audio and video engineering and editing
xii. Puts in sub-titles and voice-over where necessary
xiii. Suggests/selects music for storylines
xiv. Carries out software updates, security and preventive maintenance of workstations Qualifications and Experience:
✓ MSCE
✓ Certificate in Applied Sciences and Electronics or City & Guilds Certificate
in TV Productions or its equivalent
✓ At least a proven two years experience in videographing/camera shooting
and creative video editing
5. ENGINEER
With hands-on experience in equipment repairs and video editing; the candidate
will be responsible for the following:
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
i.Manages Radio and TV daily operation, planning, and decision-making in TV/Radio Studio Productions, Satellite facility, Flyaway (DSNG),
Transmitters and maintenances
ii. Carries out technical assessment on all electronics and electrical installations in Studios, Offices and Outside Broadcast Equipment and provides necessary maintenance advice
iii. Provides Program Software installations and upgrades to editing equipment and office IT installations
iv. Carries out repairs and maintenance stock of spares for smooth operation of the section
v.Manages Radio and TV equipment set up and carrying out Outside Broadcasting production
Qualifications and Experience:
✓ Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications Engineering or Electrical Engineering or its equivalent.
✓ Proven two years of hands-on experience in equipment repairs, video editing and self-starter
6. RIGGING TECHNICIAN
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
i.Sets up, aligns and levels rigging Transmitters RF equipment including transmitter beams, pulleys, clamps, bolts, safety belts and necessary tools for Transmitter installations and new erection of transmitter towers for RF signal propagation in designated coverage areas
ii. Carries out site surveys for a line of site and setting configurations for distant transmitter towers for rebroadcasting and signal gap filler realization within a given bandwidth by transposers, as well as microwave links
iii. Assists transmitter Engineers during system integration with modern
equipment in the existing transmitter sites and satellite uplink/downlink facilities for smooth signal operations
iv. Carries out calibrations on all RF antenna systems for Radio and TV transmitter towers for standard quality control in designated frequency spectrums of transmitter sites throughout the country
v.Carries out Satellite TV dish installations, tracking Orbital positions for satellites Qualifications and Experience:
✓ MSCE
✓ City & Guilds Certificate in Fabrication or Electrical Engineering or its equivalent
✓ Three years of proven experience in fabricating and welding metals
7. SATELLITE AND MAINTENANCE ENGINEERS (2 positions)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
i.Services, repairs and maintenance of satellite equipment for Radio & TV studio production and broadcasting equipment
ii. Responsible for setting up Outside TV and Radio broadcasting equipment, DSNG (live TV transmission via satellite)
iii. Carries out satellite configurations of system parameters and mobile satellite earth uplink installations (flyaway kits), Audio/Video mixing and production engineering
iv. Liaises with Telecoms Facilities Fiber, Microwave Internet streaming links during live and normal program transmission from studios
v.Carries out site surveys for a line of site and settings for distant transmitter towers for rebroadcasting and signal gap filler realization within a given bandwidth by transposers or fibre/microwave link setups
vi. In liaison with Transmitter Engineers responsible for System integration with modern equipment in the existing transmitter sites and satellite uplinks/downlinks for smooth signal operations
vii. Carries out calibrations on all TV equipment for quality and standard HD TV signal to satellite uplinks and transmitter sites throughout the country
viii. Satellite TV tracking and parameter programming for designated satellite channel providers within the horizon. These are used as feeds in the transmission studio
ix.
Keeps performance records of all production and transmission equipment
for the institution
x.
Carries out software updates, security and preventive maintenance of work
stations
Qualifications and Experience:
✓ Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics or its equivalent
✓ Those with a Certificate in Solar Systems or who studied Solar Systems during their Engineering Degree studies will have an added advantage
✓ Three years of working experience
✓ Hands-on experience in equipment repair and software maintenance
8. FINAL CONTROL CENTRE TECHNICIANS (3 positions)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
i. Manages daily shifts for duty FCC Technicians
ii. Receives and accesses a brief of the programme schedule, line up and
programme files, footage outline from Producers and Reporters for daily
playout
iii. Acquires LIVE satellite feed and online or web-based streams for outside live programming alongside scheduled ones
iv. Manages and directs Studio Camera recordings for both live and studio-based TV productions for MBC TV1 and MBC TV2
v.Generates graphics designing for adverts, scrollers for news and channel graphics.
vi. Assures quality control of all ingested programmes before playout and progress of audio and video engineering and editing.
vii. Manages and synchronises professional studio background, Camera settings and audio-visual mixing, recording and online playouts.
viii. Carries out social media streaming schedules for MBC TV1 and TV2
ix. Carries out software updates, security and preventive maintenance of all computer workstations in the Final Control Centre
Qualifications and Experience:
✓ MSCE; plus
✓ Certificate in Information Technology (IT); or
✓ Certificate in Computer Science and Engineering; or its equivalent
✓ Proven two years in computer networking, camera shooting and creative
video editing.
