More than 400 students from Maranatha Academy flew home in comfort and style this week, thanks to a unique partnership between the school and Malawi Airlines an arrangement that school officials say is designed to reward hard work and promote national pride.
The secondary school has secured an agreement that enables parents to pay only half the airfare, with the academy covering the remaining 50%. It is reportedly the only school in Malawi offering such a scheme.
Maranatha Academy Managing Director, Enerst Kaonga, said the initiative was part of the school’s ongoing commitment to expose students to the broader Malawian landscape while easing financial burdens on parents.

“We want our students to feel valued and motivated after going through the rigorous MSCE examinations. Flying them home not only rewards their effort but also builds their appreciation of Malawi by experiencing it from the skies,” said Kaonga.
He added that the school deliberately engages local services like Malawi Airlines to promote domestic tourism and support national businesses.
Some parents and education experts have hailed the move as an innovative model of student support that enhances both morale and patriotism.
The return flights came after weeks of rigorous national examinations, and many students were seen joyfully capturing views from their plane windows a memorable conclusion to their academic journey.
