Malawi stands to benefit from fresh insights and partnerships as the country’s Minister of Higher Education, Jessie Kabwila, leads a delegation to the 2025 STEMtastic Adventures! Africa Symposium in Nairobi, Kenya.
The high-level event, running from 22 to 25 July 2025, brings together stakeholders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education from across Africa and beyond. It is being organised by the mEducation Alliance in collaboration with the Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA), the African Union Development Agency (AUDA), and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).
Kabwila is accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Higher Education, including Director of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), Associate Professor Chomora Mikeka; Director of the Department of Distance and Open Learning (DODel), Associate Professor Joshua Valeta; and Digital Education Specialist Mary Chokani Mphonda from the Programme Implementation Management Unit.

The symposium aims to promote the sharing of best practices and the adoption of innovative, evidence-based strategies for STEM teaching and education technologies (EdTech). It is also expected to lay the groundwork for new collaborations that can enhance Malawi’s education sector.
Delegates include policymakers, donors, researchers, and practitioners from ministries of education, non-profit and for-profit organisations, and academic institutions. The conference will focus on strengthening regional and international cooperation in STEM, improving equity and accessibility in STEM education, and exploring how STEM can drive sustainable development across the continent.
