Governments of Malawi and South Africa have entered in talks regarding migration challenges faced by Malawians living in South Africa.
These issues were raised during a meeting on Wednesday between Malawi’s Minister of Homeland Security, Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma, and South Africa’s Minister of Internal Security, Leon Schreiber.
The bilateral talks took place on the sidelines of the 75th session of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
Ng’oma highlighted that Malawians based in South Africa are facing numerous challenges, ranging from deportation to threats to lives.
In response, Schreiber pledged South Africa’s commitment to work with Malawi in addressing migration challenges.
He pointed out that both governments will map ways of managing migration issues, while signing a Memorandum of Understanding in due course.
