Business mogul Thom Mpinganjira has challenged procurement specialists to improve service delivery to save their institutions’ funds.
Mpinganjira said this on Wednesday during the opening of the 2024 Malawi Institute of Procurement and Supply (MIPS) annual conference in Mangochi.
He said approximately 70% of the budget in most institutions is allocated through procurement and underscored the need for procurement professionals to be efficient and effective by optimising processes within the sector to save money.
MIPS President, Miriam Jere, stressed the importance of integrity within the profession, stating that their association will not tolerate anyone found guilty of violating procurement regulations.
The three-day conference has gathered procurement professionals from public and private institutions and is being held under the theme “Optimising procurement and supply chain management in Malawi: Strategies for enhancing productivity and export competitiveness”.
