The Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC) has called for more investment in technical development if the country is to improve its performance in international competitions.
Jappie Mhango, MOC President made the call on Wednesday when he presided over the closing ceremony of a five-day hockey level one coaching course in Blantyre.
Organised by MOC, with financial and technical assistance from the International Olympic Committee through the Olympic Solidarity programme, 21 coaches from across the country successfully completed the level one coaching course.
Mhango said it is sad that such an entry level hockey technical course was last held in Malawi over 14 years ago.
“We need well capacitated hockey coaches and we believe that those we have trained this time around will help in identifying and nurturing new talent,” said Mhango.
Hockey Association of Malawi President Wanthaza Mughogho said the seminar was crucial in shaping the game’s growth.
One of the participants, Cosmas Fletcher Mbewe said the coaching course was an eye opener.
Mbewe said he is determined to go back to the community to help in coach and player development.
