Malawi today joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Sight Day, with one of the activities marking the day held at Chiphoola Primary School in Zomba.
Speaking at the event, Senior Programmes Manager for Sight Savers, Effie Kamwendo, encouraged people to be seeking medical help whenever they experience problems to do with their eyesight.
Kamwendo expressed concern that there are who are some people are getting eye health services from herbalists and through self-medication; a thing she said is fueling blindness.
And the National Eye Care Coordinator in the Ministry of the Health, Peter Masika, said the government will continue training eye health specialists to make eye health services more accessible.
The theme for this year’s World Sight Day is “Love your eyes”.
