In a bid to mitigate the impact of climate change in vulnerable communities, the Scottish Government’s Climate Justice Fund has introduced a flagship programme in Malawi known as Climate Just Communities (CJC).
The initiative has been launched at Traditional Authority Ndindi in Salima District.
At the heart of it lies the empowerment of local communities to identify and address unique climate challenges, fostering resilience against the increasingly frequent and severe impact of climate change.
Richard Perekamoyo, the Principal Secretary for Administration in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change, was enthusiastic as the country embarks on what he described as a ‘transformative journey’.
Nandi Hall, the Senior Director of Sustainable Growth at DAI Global UK, stressed the significance of the initiative’s launch in Malawi.
“Similar projects are implemented in Rwanda and Zambia and we are thrilled to launch this initiative in Malawi,” Hall said.
DAI Global UK was awarded the contract for Malawi in August 2023 and Climate Just Communities is a successor of the Climate Challenge programme.
It will be implemented in Salima, Chikwawa, Karonga, Neno, Phalombe, Zomba and Machinga.
