The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) has described radio as an important tool for promoting socioeconomic development in the country.
Board member for MACRA, Alekeni Menyani, said this during commemoration of World Radio Day in Mzuzu.
Menyani has urged broadcasters to look out for people that contribute to phone in programmes to ensure that they do not bring in confusing issues.
“Radio plays an important role to inform, educate and entertain, therefore there is a need to always balance every information,”said Menyani.
One of the officials from UNESCO, David Mulera, urged radio stations to be creative and collaborate with other local and international media houses for improved content.
People across the globe commemorate world radio day on February 13 every year but in Malawi, the day has been celebrated today under the theme ‘Radio, true companion for years informing, educating and entertaining’.
