Lilongwe Police recovers 25 drums of tar, suspect arrested

Nathenje Police Station in Lilongwe have recovered 25 drums full of materials for making tar valued at K10 million, and five empty tanks suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained from road construction companies on Thursday, August 22 ,2024.

Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Hastings Chigalu confirmed the development and identified the suspect as Gladson Banda, 42, of Kasiya Village, Traditional Authority Kalumbu in Lilongwe district.

“We acted on a tip-off from well-wishers that the suspect offloaded the said items at his house, as detectives we made a follow-up and upon searching the house premises, we found the 25 drums full of tar, and five empty tanks which the suspect failed to explain as to where and how he got the property,” he said.

The suspect will appear in court soon to face a case of being found in possession of property suspected to have been stolen or Unlawfully obtained.
