Likoma Police condemns violence

Police in Likoma District have condemned the acts of violence that recently erupted on the island following the brutal killing of a six-year-old child, Lusako Gondwe.

Officer in Charge at the Police, Spencer Jinja, said they have since managed to arrest two suspects.

Jinja said during the protests, community members stoned their office, set alight a vehicle and some officers were wounded in the process, a situation which he said may affect security and justice.

Among others, the demonstrators damaged the side mirror of Likoma District Council’s vehicle, St. Peter’s Hospital Mortuary entrance door, St. Peter’s Primary School classrooms, Teacher Development Centre and school hall windows.
