Chikwawa District Council, Illovo sugar Malawi and DAI through Governance for Solutions (GfS) with funding from USAID, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a $15.8 million (about K27.3 billion) financial support, with the purpose of improving service delivery and revenue generation in Chikwawa District.
Speaking to MBC Digital, District Commissioner for Chikwawa, Nadini Kamba, said the MoU is aligned with Malawi 2063 Agenda of propelling the country to inclusive wealth creation and self reliance.
GfS Chief of Party to Malawi, Stephen Snook, said the core objective of USAID in Malawi is to see the private sector thriving by through inclusive and sustainable wealth generation.
Managing Director for Illovo Sugar Malawi, Lekani Kaatandula, has hailed the partnership, saying Chikwawa District is prone to natural disasters requiring constant support and that the company will actively support the cause.
The MoU will see both parties working together with communities in areas of public safety and security, development of mixed commercial parks and appropriate waste disposal and management in the district.
The Governance for Solutions (GfS) project is being implemented in eight districts of Karonga, Mzimba, Dowa, Lilongwe, Chikwawa, Mangochi, Zomba and Mulanje.
