The Japanese Embassy has, through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, donated an ambulance to the Lilongwe City Council worth K60 million.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Lilongwe, Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, Youichi Oya, expressed hope that the ambulance will ease mobility challenges for patients within Lilongwe City.
Lilongwe City Mayor Richard Banda applauded Japan for the gesture, saying the growing population in Lilongwe made it difficult for the city council to provide adequate health services.
Grant Assistant for Grassroots Human Security Project is a Japanese Government grant aid scheme introduced in 1989 to respond to diverse development needs in developing countries.
