Indian President arrives in Malawi

President of India, Shrimati Droupadi Murmu, has arrived in the country for a three-day state visit.

Malawi Vice President Dr Michael Usi and other top Malawi government officials welcomed the Indian President at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

She is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Dr Lazarus Chakwera on strengthening Malawi – India relations.

In celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between Malawi and India, Dr Chakwera is also expected to host the visiting Indian President to a dinner at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

India has been Malawi’s reliable development partner especially in the areas of health and capacity building and recently it extended humanitarian assistance to Malawi through a consignment of 1000 metric tones of rice to address the food deficit which has occurred due to severe drought caused by the El Nino phenomenon.
