CHAKWERA CHALLENGES MDF SENIOR OFFICERS ON PROFESSIONALISM AND ETHICS

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has advised Senior Officers in the Malawi Defense Force to remain patriotic, disciplined and professional in their duties.

Dr Chakwera was speaking at the Malawi Defense Force Command and Staff College in Salima during the graduation of 31 Senior Officers who have completed a 46-week training.

And speaking after academic awards to the graduates who have completed 46 weeks of training, President Dr Lazarus Chakwera started by commending Commander of the MDF Gen Paul Valentino Phiri for his diligence in matters of national security and for upholding discipline across the rank and file in the MDF as was his predecessor General Vincent Nundwe retired.

“ Since his appointment as MDF Commander, General Valentino Phiri has been a pillar of quiet discipline attending to matters under him with vigilance to sustain the momentum which started with his predecessor General Vincent Nundwe,” said Dr Chakwera.

To the graduating officers, the Commander–in–Chief implored them to emulate their leaders and retired generals.

“ That’s not only a good principle to follow in the battlefield but also life. It is those that go through life and approach their work without examples and models to anchor, challenge and ground them that often flounder, while those who have those anchors tend to flourish,“ warned Chakwera.

Speaking earlier General Paul Valentino Phiri thanked the government for the support it rendered to the new military college. General Valentino Phiri also advised the graduating senior officers to remain loyal to their armies, disciplined and uphold professionalism in their workplaces.

Among the 31, seven are from allied armies such as Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique.

They have been drilled in national security, counter-terrorism, critical and creative thinking, disaster management, international relations and peace and conflict studies.

Upon arrival, President Chakwera who is also Commander In – Chief of the Malawi Defense Force was briefed about development projects taking place at the Malawi Defence Force Command and Staff College, together with Commander of the MDF General Valentino Phiri and senior commanding officers proceeded to a construction site where a 2 storey, 24 roomed hostel for directing staff will be constructed.
