Group Village Headperson (GVH) Kapalamula of Dedza has urged women, youth, and persons with disabilities aspiring to contest in the general elections to focus on issue-based campaigning.
GVH Kapalamula made the remarks in response to recent discussions organised by OXFAM, the Women’s Legal Resources Centre, and the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) Dedza Diocese, which engaged political parties in the district.
She said that an issue-based approach is the most effective way to win over registered voters, rather than resorting to personal attacks during the official campaign period.
Meanwhile, Eveline Tafatatha, a Malawi Congress Party aspirant for Malembo Ward, appealed to political parties to adopt a secret ballot system during their primary elections to enhance fairness and transparency.
Janet Gwaza, a United Democratic Front aspirant for Dedza Mphunzi Constituency, described the discussions as an eye-opener for women, helping them strategize ahead of the upcoming primaries.
OXFAM and the Women’s Legal Resource Centre are engaging with women’s initiatives as part of ongoing efforts to promote women’s participation in politics.
