Minister of Labour Peter Dimba says vocational training has the potential to drive economic growth and development in the country.
He made the remarks in Blantyre during a graduation ceremony for 750 students who completed vocational skills training under the Technical, Entrepreneurial, and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA).
Dimba said government is committed to transforming Malawi into an inclusively wealthy and self-reliant nation through initiatives such as vocational training. He noted that TEVETA’s focus on practical and employable skills is key to advancing national development.
“TEVETA’s approach is driven by practical and employable skills, transforming trainees from job seekers into skilled professionals ready to contribute to the economy,” said Dimba.
He also commended TEVETA’s programmes for promoting economic independence and creating opportunities for entrepreneurship.

TEVETA Board Chairperson. Pyoka Tembo said the authority is committed to maintaining quality assurance in training by regularly monitoring institutions and updating training packages in line with market trends.
“As a regulator, we ensure that all training institutions are registered based on safety, infrastructure, staffing, equipment, and training standards,” said Tembo.
One of the beneficiaries, Carol Phiri, described the initiative as a game changer for urban youths, including those without formal education.
The graduation ceremony was held under the theme “Empowering the Youths through Technical, Entrepreneurial, and Vocational Skills.”
