Five TAs in Thyolo improve on hygiene

Thyolo District Council has announced that five traditional authorities (T/As) in the district have achieved open defecation-free (ODF) status, following improvements in the use of hygienic toilets.

Speaking at Kadzuwa Primary School during the commemoration of World Toilet Day, District Council Chairperson, Petro Bowman said the increased proper use and building of hygienic toilets in the area has helped to reduce the occurrences of waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera.

Bowman further said they plan to extend the interventions to other areas in the district to make sure that Thyolo becomes one of the most hygienic districts in the country.

The T/As recognised for their achievements in promoting clean and durable toilets are Nanseta, Kwetemule, Changata, Ngolongoliwa, and Kapichi.
