Vice President Dr Michael Usi is in Tangier, Kingdom of Morocco, to attend the Blue Africa Summit.
The summit brings together African Ministers, UN representatives, and leaders from the private sector and philanthropic organizations to discuss ocean conservation and sustainable development.
Dr Usi landed at Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport, where he was welcomed by Malawi’s Charge d’Affaires, Kennedy Lweya, and Principal Secretary in the Office of the Vice President, Lucky Sikwese. He then traveled to Tangier by high-speed train and was welcomed by officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change and other government officials.
While in Morocco, Dr Usi will also meet with Moroccan Government officials to strengthen diplomatic ties, following the recent inauguration of Malawi’s Embassy in Rabat.
In addition to the summit, Dr Usi will attend the Pre-Conference of Parties (Pre-COP) to the 2024 UN Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 10 to 12 October, 2024.
The discussion will be on key global climate negotiations.
His participation in the high-level meetings emphasises Malawi’s commitment to addressing climate and environmental issues, which will benefit both the nation and the African region.
