NICE advocates for tolerance, peaceful elections

National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust has called for tolerance amongst political players in the run-up to 2025 tripartite elections.

Zomba District Programmes Officer for NICE, Kondwani Neba, made these remarks at Machilinga Ground in the area of Sub-Traditional Authority Ntholowa in the district.

Neba noted that multiparty democracy advances for equal political playing field and advised people from using and promoting hate speech.

“If one person book a ground for one month or more, is that democracy?” he asked.

Neba called upon duty bearers to devise ways of ensuring that different political players have a chance to conduct rallies without monopolisation.

Group Village Headman Kumachilinga said inter-party and intra-party conflicts will be solved through contact and dialogue.

“All concerned groups will be consulted in an event of a conflict to diagnose the problem and reach an amicable understanding,” he said.

Magret Ng’oma member of Village Development Committee in Group Village Headman Kumachilinga said community leaders are on alert as political parties gear for primary elections.

Raphael Muyenera, a community member applauded NICE Trust for the awareness initiative.

Political parties are set for Primary elections to choose party representatives in the national assembly and local councils.

NICE has embarked on a district-wide civic education campaign on issues surrounding the general election slated for September 16.
