Dzaleka showcases talents on Youth Day

Young people from Dzaleka Refugee Camp marked Youth Day on Monday with a talent exhibition, showcasing a variety of skills and creative arts.

Youth Day, celebrated globally on 12 August, honours the potential, achievements, and contributions of young people.

Speaking at the talent show, Elton Phulusa, Dzaleka Refugee Camp Manager, called for support from various patrons across the country to help nurture the talents displayed by the youth at the camp. He highlighted that while the young people at Dzaleka have the potential to thrive in the creative industry, they lack adequate support.

Shakira Clementine Phillimon, the first-ever Miss Dzaleka from Burundi, echoed these sentiments, emphasising the need for assistance to boost the skills of the youth.

“We have young people here who are skilled in areas such as internet use, videography, and photography, among other talents. We would like to be supported so that we can contribute to the growth of the creative industry,” said Phillimon.

The event was organised by Tumaini Letu, a nonprofit organisation based at the camp, with funding from the World University Service of Canada.
