Dadaz’s Chess for Street Kids initiative receives boost

Efforts to empower street-connected kids through chess, under Dadaz Chess Academy’s “Chess for Street Kids” initiative have received a boost with the establishment of a new training shelter worth approximately K3 million, courtesy of Swedish partner Ivar Dommersnes.

During the unveiling of the venue at Falls Estate in Lilongwe along the M1 Road, Dadaz Chess Academy founder Susan Namangale, who is former president of the Chess Association of Malawi, hailed Dommersnes for the gesture, pointing out that the place provides hope for the street connected kids as it offers them training by Chess experts to regain their dignity and unlock their potential.

“This initiative is key in making the kids responsible citizens, the sport helps in critical thinking and problem solving and we want to open more of such places to accommodate more children,” said Namangale.

Dommersnes, who is in the country for different charitable works, hailed Dadaz for the initiative and pledged continued support for the growth of chess in the country.

Chess for the Street Kids initiative was launched in January this year to complement “Chess for prisoners” which seeks to reform and shape inmates.
