Africa’s scientific resources developed – AU

African Union (AU) says Africa’s resilience during the global COVID-19 crisis proved that Africa as a continent has the potential and resources to solve its own health problems, citing Africa CDC’s contributions to successful continental COVID-19 response.

The statement comes as Africans today are celebrating Africa Day which marks the commemoration of the birth of Organisation of African Unity (OAU).

In a message commemorating the birth of the OAU, Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairperson of the African Union Commission said Africa’s liberation and progress in development and integration are now a reality courtesy of the vision and leadership of founding fathers and current leaders.

Mahamat further called on African youth who make up over 60 percent of Africa’s population to start taking agriculture as a source of income as the continent is blessed with arable land, water, fisheries, mining, and energy resources.

OAU was formed on 25 May 1963 with the aim of promoting a powerful lever for unity, liberation, integration, and defence of African dignity.
